Haslingden Cricket Club is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Any money received will go to drainage improvements on our ground which are much needed. We are one of three projects in our local region competing for the monies available in this round of funding so every vote for us will be vital.
Voting is open in all Tesco stores throughout January and February and our stores are Haslingden and Rawtenstall. Customers will cast their vote using the blue tokens given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop. DON’T FORGET TO ASK FOR YOURS! Please encourage all friends and family members who may not be part of the club to vote for HCC and help us in this funding drive.
For full details of the scheme and our drainage project, please see the article below :

The fixtures for the 1st XI and 2nd XI for 2018 have now been announced along with the Worsley Cup Draw and the T20 competition. Information regarding changes to the 3rd XI structure is also available.
In 2018 there are currently 24 teams in the league. Each club will play each other once with the teams finishing in the top 12 positions creating league division 1 in 2019 and those in the bottom 12 positions forming league division 2 in 2019. In 2018 the 2nd XI fixtures will be the reverse fixture to the 1st XI with the 2nd XI league then splitting into 2 separate divisions in 2019 based on the 2nd XI 2018 standings. The season theoretically starts on Sunday 15 April with the 1st XI at home v Clitheroe. Full fixtures for the remainder of the season can be found via the link below.
Worsley Cup / Telegraph Cup
16 clubs compete in round 1 of the two 50 over cup competitions in 2018 with the other 8 clubs receiving a buy. This means there is now one additional round in the competition compared to past years. HCC have been handed a challenging round 1 tie with our 1st XI travelling to Lowerhouse on Sunday 6 May whilst our 2nd XI will host Lowerhouse at CDM Windows Bentgate. All cup fixtures can be found via the link below.
Some semblance of order has been returned to the T20 competition for 2018 with 4 regionalised groups of 6 teams being drawn. The top two teams in each group will proceed to the quarter final knock outs. HCC are in Division A East and we start the competition on Friday 1 June with a home match against local rivals Ramsbottom quickly followed by another home game v Rawtenstall on Friday 8 June. Full fixtures can be found on the link below.
The introduction of further clubs to the league structure has also necessitated a rethink as to how the 3rd XI league should operate. The league has been split into 3 initial groups with each team in the group playing each other twice. The winners of each group will then play off to decide the overall champion. Fixtures have not yet been announced, however the league groupings can be seen via the link below.
The Heritage Lottery Fund Roadshow will be visiting the CDM Windows Bentgate Cricket Ground on Thursday 30 November at 7.30 pm to make their presentation to members, supporters friends & family of Haslingden CC. Brian Heywood and fellow members of the Steering Group will be making the presentation.
We look forward to welcoming as many interested HCC people as is possible.
To summarise : The Lancashire Cricket League has received initial support from the National Lottery for its project ‘The Lancashire League Experience: Celebrating 125 Years of the Lancashire Cricket League’. The project aims to celebrate and preserve the heritage of the Lancashire Cricket League, which turns 125 years old in 2017.
Development funding of 28,600 pounds has been awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to help the project to progress their plans across the League’s clubs in preparation for a full grant application of 338,100 pounds in 2018.
Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project will celebrate the history and heritage of the League’s 17 clubs, covering a large swathe of Pennine Lancashire, flanked by Colne, Clitheroe, Darwen, Ramsbottom and just over the border to Todmorden.
Further information is available on the Lancashire League Website and can be seen on the link below.
As agreed at the recent players meeting, Joe Sipocz has arranged New Year fitness training sessions to be held at Lean Fitness (Oak Mill, Manchester Road, Crawshawbooth, BB11 5PW).
