T20 v Crompton – Friday 28th June 2019
Haslingden’s youthful T20 team took on Crompton at Bentgate on Friday night. Crompton won the toss and elected to bowl first. Leicestershire all-rounder Arron Lilley was again the sub professional for Haslingden. Arron Lilley and Matthew Griffin opened the batting for Haslingden and after a wide, Lilley was caught at first slip off the next delivery. Griffin and Chris Cook-Martin took the score onto 24 before Griffin was caught for 9. Cook-Martin (13) was next to go with the score on 31. Sean Hunsley and Oliver Cameron moved the score onto 68 when Cameron was bowled for 15. There was little more resistance after that and when Hunsley was out for a top score of 26 with the score on 94 there were three overs remaining. Oliver Lord, Tom Horrocks and Leon Brennan who was making his debut, moved the score onto 109 for 9 in 20 overs. Crompton made short work of chasing the runs with big hitting Mohammad Jamal scoring 62 runs in 33 balls. Arron Lilley took the one wicket to fall when the score was on 50. Crompton reached their target in 9.3 overs and qualify for the quarter finals, pipping Walsden with a better run rate. Thank you to John Stanton for taking the fantastic photos.
1st XI v Rishton – Sunday 30th June 2019
The First XI took on Rishton at Liverpool Road on a windy but warm Sunday. Joe Sipocz the Haslingden captain won the toss and decided to bat first. Graham Knowles and Matthew Sudworth opened the batting. Sudworth was out early but Knowles and sub professional Neels Bergh took the score onto 51 for the second wicket before Knowles was given out caught behind for 30. Bergh and Matthew Griffin shared a 105 run partnership with Bergh scoring 58 before he was bowled by Ashfaq when the score was 156. Griffin went on to score an excellent 94 before he was last out in the final over with the score on 218. The only other Haslingden player to reach double figures was Joe Sipocz with 10. Brad Boddie and Rishton professional Mansoor Amjad both took 3 wickets.
Joe Sipocz and Oliver Lord opened the bowling for Haslingden and got off to a great start with Lord taking a wicket with the first ball. Rishton professional Amjad scored 36 before he was bowled by Sean Hunsley and the score was 66 for 3. Wickets continued to fall throughout but Haslingden could not remove Boddie who made 97 before he was bowled by his opposite number Sipocz in the 48th over. By that time the score was 210. Abdul Mall and Andrew Hickey saw Rishton over the line to win by one wicket with seven balls to spare. Garry Sudworth took 4 for 57 in his 15 overs and Sean Hunsley took 2 for 48 in his 13 overs. Twelve points to Rishton and five points to Haslingden who move up to second place in the table.
2nd XI v Church – Sunday 30th June 2019
The Haslingden Second XI took on third placed Church 2nds at Bentgate on Sunday. Church won the toss and decided to bat first. Tom Horrocks and Oliver Cameron opened the bowling for Haslingden and ran through the top eight in short time, assisted by a Joseph (Jonty) Blomley direct hit run out. Cameron took five wickets in his fine spell and Horrocks took two. The innings was wrapped up by Joe Hayton who took two wickets in the 17th over and Church were dismissed for 66. Lawrence Adlum and Nathan Thornton opened the batting for Haslingden and the score was 33-2 when Thornton was dismissed. Jeff Stanton with 21 not out and Oliver Cameron with 18 not out saw the team home to win by eight wickets by 3.30pm. Twelve points to Haslingden who remain top of the table.
