It has been a long autumn and winter so far with plenty of uncertainty, however Haslingden Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of Grant Roelofsen as the new club professional for the 2021 season. Grant plays franchise cricket for the Dolphins in South Africa. Grant who comes off the back of an award winning season in 2019/2020 as he was named one-day player of the year at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony in July.
Club captain Jordan Shannon stated “It is fantastic to have a player of Grant’s calibre to be with us for the 2021 season, he’ll strengthen the batting and add a high level of quality and experience to the top of the order, there’s no question about that. Hopefully he can be the catalyst to drive us into the top division. I wish him all the best for the forthcoming season”
Everyone at the club would like to send their best wishes to Grant and also thank Rob Humphries at World Sports Xchange for his work in securing a top quality professional for the 2021 season.
The club would also like to thank Jordan Shannon for all his efforts over the last few weeks and months.
Following the end of the most recent lockdown, Lancashire has been placed in Tier 3 and as a result of that the club remains closed. Unfortunately we will not be able to reopen until we move into Tier 1, whenever that maybe. However, Slimming World have now resumed their regular Tuesday meetings and we are pleased to be able to publish a message below from The Hut by the Wickets at Haslingden Cricket Club.
We are running a delivery & collection service for our delicious Roast every Sunday now from 1pm to 9pm.
You can order via our Haslingden phone 07493356263, on our app (during opening hours on the day) or on our website: www.thehutrossendale.co.uk
We wanted to confirm something that you may have already seen on social media that The Hut will no longer be opening on a Sunday at HCC until we are able to reopen the clubhouse fully. Their Rawtenstall site remains open as usual for collection and deliveries.
There have also been press articles circulating reporting that social clubs in Tier 3 areas are able to open to members only and visitors are able to drink alcohol without having to purchase a substantial meal. We had established that this was only for clubs with a Club Premises Licence, but in any event this morning the Government confirmed that this is not the case and have closed that loophole. So we will remain closed at least until the four week Tier 3 Covid 19 review that is due to take place in mid-November.
You will probably be aware that Lancashire moved into Tier 3 in the Coronavirus level shortly after midnight on Friday 16th October 2020. The result of this is that the club has had to close once again. We understand that this status will be reviewed by the government after four weeks. As soon as there is any change to our status, we will notify you via our website, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
The Hut will open on a Sunday for provision of their delicious Sunday Roast Meals. If you would like to book a table please contact the Hut directly on 07493 356263 via Facebook, Twitter or on their app. Their Rawtenstall site is open as usual for collection and delivery.
We will be continuing to monitor the situation with regard to reopening and will run the monthly draw as usual. This will be live on Twitter on the last Saturday of the month. If you would like to join the draw please click here.
We hope that you are all staying well and thank you for your ongoing support with the Monthly Draw and by raising funds for us via Easyfundraising. We hope to see you soon.

We hope that the ECB & The Government will provide us
with promising news about the return of cricket sooner rather than later.
We are sure that you are aware of
recent events surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic and at this time of
uncertainty, we thought it appropriate to update you on how this is impacting
on our cricket club and how our members could help to ease the strain over the
The ECB has taken the decision to
suspend all junior and senior recreational cricket for the foreseeable future.
There has been a meeting of the Lancashire League Cricket Executive where it
was decided that there will be no Cup competitions apart from a T20 competition
and once sanctions are lifted, teams will play each other once with no
promotion or relegation. Clubs will not be penalised if they do not engage a
professional. It is envisaged that cricket will not commence until the
beginning of July at the earliest but obviously that will be kept under review.
As you will be aware the club
closed its doors on Friday 20th March in line with Government
guidelines and all events and functions have had to be cancelled. This will
have a significant financial impact on our club. Our Management Committee
have taken steps to reduce our outgoings during this period of closure and we
hope that there will be some financial support by way of grants from the
Government. We are currently waiting for confirmation with regards to
eligibility and accessing this funding.
