Saturday 10th August 2019 – 1st and 2nd XI’s v Enfield
Unfortunately both games were called off without a ball being bowled because of the appalling weather.
Sunday 11th August 2019 – 3rd XI v Clitheroe 4th XI
Haslingden took on the Clitheroe 4th XI at Bentgate in the only Lancashire League game over the weekend to beat the wet conditions. Sterling work from the groundsmen enabled the fixture to start shortly after 1pm in a 38 over game. Captain Jeff Stanton won the toss and elected to bat. Haslingden got off to a steady start and were 32 when Leon Brennan was out for 15. Niall Clarke followed shortly afterwards for 16. Joe Hayton and Alex Chapleo shared a fourth wicket stand of 35 when Hayton was bowled for 17 and the score was 74 for 4. Wickets then fell steadily as Haslingden reached 125 for 8 from their 38 overs. Alex Chapleo top scored with 25 and there was an excellent 16 not out from 13-year-old Jack Fuller at the end.
Haslingden’s bowling attack was restricted because of holidays and injuries and they struggled with the ball as the Clitheroe openers got off to a fast start. After a short break for rain the Clitheroe target was reduced to 119. The Clitheroe batsmen continued to score quickly and Haslingden were only able to take 2 wickets as Clitheroe reached their target with 15 overs to spare. Joe Hayton took the two wickets to fall. Ten points to Clitheroe.
