Lads on Tour in Australia

Catch up with Leon, Oliver and Joe in Oz

After a very wet start to Joe, Leon & Oliver’s cricketing down under, they eventually started playing cricket in November!!

They arrived on 27th September with a small complication of dwelling, this was soon rectified and has been their stable home since.   Work has been a rollercoaster for all, but Buckley Ridges Cricket Club has supported them throughout.

Noah (the Beast) Priestley from Todmorden, who is also at Buckley Ridges, has become a very good friend.  Bubba (Santa in the photo below) is Noah’s host and has adopted our HCC guys as his own.

The boys were expecting to play cricket with a two day league format, alongside a one day cup format. Unfortunately, due to the very wet start, the league were forced to reformat the whole season as a one day only competition.  However, they are now enjoying their cricket. As of 22nd January, Leon is the top run scorer and Joe is the second leading wicket taker for Buckley Ridges Turf 4 side and Oliver is currently the leading wicket taker for Buckley Ridges Turf 1 reserves. All three boys are playing a very good standard of cricket, on good quality pitches.

Christmas was a very different experience, which involved the morning spent on the beach, Christmas dinner from a beach diner, followed by a Christmas barbecue for 80 people! Cricket took a break over this time for three weekends.  This allowed the boys to enjoy a week in Bali. Unfortunately Oliver went swimming with his phone and had to communicate home through Leon. Luckily Joe came to the rescue, due to having a spare phone in Australia, who would have thought!!

The boys will hopefully arrive home on Sunday 26th March, ready for the start of our Lancashire league season. Everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing them and hearing all about their many remaining adventures.
